Team World Wins The NBA Africa Game 2017

You may┬áremember this blog from a few weeks ago when the rosters were officially announced, well today was the day the game actually took place. On paper this may not have seemed like it was going to be a competitive game, but in reality it absolutely was. A true nail biter down the stretch, today’s game did the job of scratching the basketball itch. When it was all said and done Team World came away victorious with a score of 108-97. This now makes Team World 2-0 all time in this series after they won the previous game in 2015 as well.

There were a couple of standout performances from both sides, but let’s start with some guys that have direct ties to cities here at Barstool.

First up, if you’re a Knicks fan, I’ve got good news for you. Porzingis looked fantastic.

Porzingis had 10 points in the first half and it appears all that working out with Dirk is paying off. He even overcame a quick injury scare with a tough fall, which I hope Clem wasn’t watching.

Then, there was my man Jaylen Brown. He finished with 15/3/3/2, which lead Team World in points, but what I loved was nearly all of his points came in the fourth quarter, when things started to get competitive

and of course, nobody puts a cherry on top quite like Jaylen

Hard to not be excited as a Celtic fan that’s for sure. He looked much better on this court than he did during the Summer League which is encouraging.

But there were also some other notable performances from this game from other guys who deserve mention in their own right. For starters, Victor Oladipo did his best to make IND fans feel like that trade wasn’t so bad by winning MVP. He finished the game with 28/9/5/1/1, and had a number of highlight plays himself

sadly, that trade was still doo doo despite the solid showing from Victor.

Nuggets fans should be happy with what they saw from Emmanuel Mudiay, as he nearly turned in a triple double. It feels like he’s been in the NBA forever and never really took a step in his development, but his passing and shooting certainly looked improved in this game. Perhaps a guy that could be moved as part of a Kyrie deal? Probably not….but maybe.

For Raptors fans, you got a good show from your 3/100M man. With the game close in the final seconds, it was Kyle Lowry that stepped up to seal the win for Team World

He sure looks completely healthy to me which has to be a good sign for a team looking to come back from an injury plagued 2016 season.

All in all this game was exactly what myself and I’m sure other basketball junkies needed during the slowest time in the NBA calendar. Really all it did was make me crave basketball even more. We’re just a quick 73 days from Opening Night, and it can’t come soon enough.
